In some countries video games are fast becoming a social problem. They are banned in the Philippines and Indonesia. In Japan, those who are under 15 years old are forbidden to use the public machines at night. City elders across the United States are campaigning (呼吁) to restrict their numbers, while the Hong Kong government is proposing to license (批准) their operation. These video games are causing children to waste their money on them. Even adults are lured (诱惑) into spending working hours playing them.
In Singapore, the battle of man against the machines takes place in licensed amusement centers (娱乐中心), mostly located in shopping centers. According to one estimated, each establishment can make between $250 and $1,500 a day. The schoolchildren in uniforms there are not allowed into these centers.
