Writing a good essay in class requires a sense of time and organization. During the first tern minutes, you must limit your subject and decide on a controlling idea. Then, in the next ten minutes, you should develop the controlling idea and write two topic sentences for your body paragraphs that follow logically from your controlling idea. These topic sentences should make two clear and plain points about your subject. Then next twenty minutes should be spent writing the rest of the essay. You must write an introduction that includes your controlling ideas. After this, you need to write supporting-detail sentences, logically arranged, to back up the topic sentences of the two body paragraphs, you must be engaged in proof-reading and editing. All this is not easy, because clear writing is clear thinking that demands training of mind and character and organization.
