How English Works
How English Works covers all the important elements of grammar for students of English as a foreign language, and many other topics which are often ignored. It is mainly designed for students working on their own, but can also be used in class. Unlike other grammars at this level, it is richly illustrated with drawings, cartoons, and graphs, and is printed in full colour. Many of the examples are real, and the exercises are of many different types.
Oxford Guide to English Grammar
The emphasis in this modern reference grammar is on meaning in the choice of grammatical pattern, and on the use of patterns in texts and conversations. Over fifty texts and dialogues, most from real sources, show patterns in context. There are also many real single-sentence examples.
The book is thorough in its coverage but pays most attention to points that are of practical importance to learners. Summaries at the beginning of each chapter provide a quick survey of its content and a broad view of the grammar topic. The grammar is presented in concise sections, written in carefully controlled language. The explanations are clear, simple, and precise. Technical terms are used sparingly and are explained in a glossary.
Practical English Usage
Practical English Usage is a dictionary of problem points in the language for foreign learners and their teachers. It answers the learner’s question, "Is this right or wrong" and the teacher’s question, "How can I explain this to my classes" It gives information and advice that is practical, clear, reliable, and easy to find. Most of the book is about grammar, but it also covers selected points of vocabulary, idiom, style, pronunciation, and spelling.
Grammar
Grammar is a progressive series of four books for schools where English grammar is first taught to children from the age of about nine. It can be used to supplement any main beginner’s course.
The exercises progress within each chapter from easy mechanical ones, designed to establish or reinforce a grasp of forms and their use, to less structured activities which encourage students to use language creatively. This active, communicative element is unusual in books of this type.
Oxford Practice Grammar
