U.S. tobacco farmers are hurting from low tobacco prices, rising labor costs and decreasing demand in America. The government of Maryland is paying its farmers to get out of the business. However, that’s not the way it will be done in North Carolina, which grows more tobacco than any other state. The state is offering $2 billion to their 11 000 tobacco farmers so they can look for someplace else to sell it.
