Participants were randomly assigned to one of three groups, each of which had a different level of reward. In the first group, which served as the control, participants were told that the experimenter was the only one who would know how they score on the puzzle task. In the second group, participants had to publicize their scores by announcing it to the group. In the third group, participants were told that whoever scored the highest would receive a $20.00 reward. After group assignment, I distributed the puzzles to the participants. Upon completion, participants returned the puzzles and received a packet containing Four Likert scales and a short list of demographic questions. Once participants had completed the questionnaires, they were dismissed. This description doesn’t clearly tell us a summary of each step in the execution of the research.
