Greenland is a very different place from Hong Kong. It is
the largest island in the world, but only 56,000 people live there. Greenland is
a very interesting name, because 95% of the land is covered with white ice. For
four months every year, it is night-time for 24 hours a day! The weather is
often very cold and windy. Julianehab is a small fishing
village on the south coast (海岸) of Greenland. Not many people live there. Two of
these people are Charles and Karent Luk from Hong Kong. The
Luks have lived in Greenland since 1993. "We first came here in 1988. At that
time, we were both studying at a college in Hong Kong," said Charles. "We fell
in love with Greenland and decided to live here." The Luks work for an
international (国际的) company in Julianehab. Charles and Karen
are learning Inuit, the language of Greenland. However, most of the time they
use English. "English is an international language," said Charles. "It helps
people from Hong Kong to talk to other people from all over the
world." The Luks are very happy in Greenland and would like to
stay there for the rest of their lives. "We like Greenland because it’s a very
quiet place," said Karen Luk. "The people are very friendly. We also enjoy the
food very much. Greenlanders like seafood, and so do we." What do we know about "Inuit" (Line 1, Para.4)
A. The Luks speak it to people from other countries.
B. It is a kind of international language.
C. It is a foreign language to the Luks.
