Passage Four
There are two campuses on Murdoch University, i.e. the Murdoch Campus and the Rockingham Campus. On the Murdoch Campus, all resources on careers are located in the Careers Centre, which includes a library of information on employers, career choices and overseas opportunities; job-seeking material; and computer terminals for easy access to employers’ websites and to assist in preparing job applications. On the Rockingham Campus there is a Careers Section on the ground floor of the Library for all reference material, and a Careers Resource Room in the Student Services building for “take-away” employer and job seeking material. The Murdoch University careers advisers offer one-on-one appointments to students and graduates to discuss career directions and job-seeking skills, and to advise on how to research the job market. Appointments generally take 30 minutes and must be booked in advance by phoning or calling in to the Murdoch Campus Careers Centre. While the careers advisers are located on the Murdoch Campus, they regularly visit the Rockingham Campus to make presentations and for pre-arranged appointments. The Careers Centre has a series of free job-seeking handouts to get you started. You can pick up “how to” information on resumes, application letters, interview techniques, vacation employment, work experience, psychological testing and researching the job market. In addition, publications such as “Graduate Opportunities and Graduate Future” are available to you at certain times of the year.
