I used to think I had to do all of them, and I was doing them all the time, from the moment I woke up until I flew out the door for work... Then one day I went to see the counselor and he suggested I experiment by not making my bed for two weeks... It’ s incredible. I never felt better. And you know what I don’ t dry my dishes anymore ,either. I discovered I had choices in my life and my life is so much different now.

I stopped reading and playing ball, and six months went by without a long walk... Then I realized that was not a great way to live. I’ ve got to change. I know where to begin. I picked them up one by one.

It took a long time for me to realize that fax machines and cellular phones don’ t save time but merely speed up the already hectic pace of life. And trying to be more efficient isn’ t the key, either. That’ s just a way of cramming more into less time. I then came to realize that we really should be aiming to do less and enjoy it more. And the thing is I never bring my briefcase home from the office any more.

I didn’ t know what I was busy doing. I only knew I was terribly tired and needed to take a nap. I needed to take a walk. I needed to sit down and lean back. I believed in it, you know, save the best for the last. Then I realized it probably would never happen if it always got left until last. Work before health and pleasure soon becomes work instead of health and pleasure. Thank God I’ m so different now. I’ m so very, very back.
