YES NO
Homework is necessary for students, because
practice makes perfect.
Firstly, homework is the way the teacher provides
guidance for students. By checking their homework,
the teacher can find out the weakness of the students,
and guide them accordingly. Hence the homework
can help students learn efficiently.
Secondly, sometimes if a student doesn"t have
the must-do homework, he won"t review or preview
the lesson willingly because of the lack of motivation.
Thirdly, homework can reflect how well the
student has mastered the knowledge. On the other
hand, the teacher is able to find the problems in his/
her teaching, and make corresponding adjustments, ei-
ther for all the students or for a single one.
Many teachers assign homework to students
every day. Personally, I think it is not necessary.
To begin with, if the teacher doesn"t have
classes today, there is no need for him/her to as-
sign homework. Because if the teacher still does,
perhaps the students will not have enough time to
review other lessons learnt the same day.
In addition, every student has his/her right
to own leisure time. They are not machines. So it
will be good for students" physical and mental
health if teachers allow students to have some
spare time.
Lastly, assigning homework every day is not
a scientific way of teaching and studying. It can
make students lose interest in studying.

You either get it or you don t. The minute you find a reason not to take another step towards success is the moment you stop being successful. In the symphony of success, excuses are just noise. On the one side of obstaclesEveryone faces changes; different ones at different times. We all handle the same challenges differently; we all have different results. It s how you handle each one and what you do with the results that count. New standards of filial piety released by the Chinese government specifying 24 requirements for dutiful children have triggered a heated discussion. The new standards include spending holidays with parents, visiting them regularly, calling them once a week, and cooking for them. Should filial piety be regulated What s your opinion Read carefully the opinions from both sides and write your response in about 200 words, in which you should first summarize briefly the opinions from both sides and give your view on the issue. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. YESNOPutting forward the filial piety standards isaimed to promote the traditional Chinese virtue ofrespecting the elderly. China has a long history ofstressing filial piety, which forms the core of familyvalues. Compared with the traditional filial devotion, the new standards are more up to date and relevantto modern society. The new standards are an inno-vative way of inheriting the essence of filial culture. The modern society lays great stress on the le-gal regulation while filial piety which depends onpeople s moral sense and inner discipline seemsunable to prevail. What we need now is a code ofconduct that helps to persuade people to practicefilial piety. These standards do not intend to forcepeople to obey filial principles by law, but providethem with a guideline. As a moral requirement for human beings, filialpiety is unlikely to have perfect standards. Realfilial piety is not something to be shown off toothers, but something buried deeply in one s heart.Due to dif-ferent living and working environment, the ways of practicing filial piety may bedifferent. It is unwise to require every child tofollow the same standards. Besides, the newstandards are not feasible in modern days asmany people live far away fromtheir parents and have little time besides work. The implementation of these new filial stand-ards is not the right solution to the problem ofChina s aging population. As for the government,it is more effective to build up more staterunnursing homes rather than issue filial standards inorder to solve the problem.
